APOSTOLIC CHARTER & PURPOSE

OUR VISION

“Rural Evangelical Outreach (REO MINISTRIES INC.) is a non-denominational missionary organization totally committed to the evangelization of rural areas and small towns all over Africa and the third World via saturation church planting, prayer evangelism/community transformation and training/equipping of rural ministers and churches.”

Our vision is to give opportunity to the rural dwellers whose lives are dominated with idolatry, poverty, ignorance and diseases, to receive eternal and better life through the preaching and demonstration of the word of God in power and practical love.

Evangelizing Rural Africa

OUR HISTORY

The providential story of how God raised R.E.O. Ministries to champion the neglected rural frontiers of Africa.

HABAKKUK 2:2

“Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.”

EPOCH 01 // 1980–1987 THE GENESIS OF BURDEN

God Speaks to Prof. Dan. Ozoko

Between 1980 and 1987, God spoke to Prof. Dan. Ozoko through dreams, visions and prophecies about the need to evangelize rural areas. While sending him as a youth corper, God opened his eyes to the dire spiritual conditions thriving in rural areas all over Nigeria. While the cities were heavily saturated with churches and ministries, the rural areas were totally neglected and by-passed by the churches.

Prof. Dan. Ozoko discovered that even when there were churches, they were usually weak — spiritually, numerically, financially, etc. Problems of illiteracy; poverty; lack of ministerial training; witchcraft and logistics made it impossible for any gospel expansion to take place in rural areas.

EPOCH 02 // 1988 FOUNDATIONAL CHARTER

A Clear Divine Charter: R.E.O. Ministries is Born

Existing churches in the cities did not care much about rural-missions or evangelism. Those with a missionary vision preferred to focus on foreign missions and the Islamic strongholds in Northern Nigeria. Rural areas in the central, south-eastern and south-western parts of the country were totally ignored. There was a critical need to do something urgent to address the situation.

In 1988, Brother Dan received a clear leading to establish an organization to champion the cause of rural evangelization. R.E.O. MINISTRIES was born as a result of this leading.

EPOCH 03 // 1989–1995 FRONTIER INVASIONS

Power Encounters & Community Transformation

It began basically as an outreach group (and not a church or fellowship). The main activity then was to recruit interested believers from different cities and churches to take extended evangelistic outreaches to completely unevangelised rural areas as indicated from mission surveys and spiritual mapping.

Right from its beginnings, our outreaches were characterized by miracles of salvation; deliverance; healings and power encounters with demonic powers. Whole communities were getting saved, renouncing idols and embracing new ways of doing things.

EPOCH 04 // 1996–2005 EXPONENTIAL GROWTH

Saturation Church Planting & Ministerial Training

Through the years, our outreaches began to grow in diversity. The need for aggressive church planting became clear when we began reaching out to unchurched places. Big denominations simply refused to take responsibility for churches we handed over to them, so we were forced to take over the churches we were planting.

The need for training and equipping rural ministers from all denominations became clear as more and more groups sought to find out the secret of our success in rural areas. Then we became involved in dealing with idols and shrines. Eventually the drive for total community transformation began as a result.

EPOCH 05 // 2006–PRESENT CONTINENTAL APOSTOLIC EXPANSION

Hundreds of Churches Planted, Thousands of Pastors Trained

Today, we can look back to the hundreds of churches we have planted; to the thousands of rural ministers trained in our conferences; to the tens of rural communities transformed by our outreaches and say:

“EBENEZER, HITHERTO HATH THE LORD HELPED US” — 1 Samuel 7:12

Our vision remains as fresh and burning as when we started: To see every rural community in Africa receive the Gospel of Jesus Christ in power, truth, and practical love.

11 Core Convictions

OUR VALUES

Our values are the convictions that demonstrate WHY we do what we do. These values are based on powerful encounters with God in the past and will always influence our future. They guide our thinking, planning, spending and decision-making.

W
01 THEOLOGY

Word-based Ministry

The Word of God is the basic principle behind everything we say or do. It is our practice to reject anything that is not firmly based on the Word of God.

P
02 INTERCESSION

Persistent Prayer & Spiritual Warfare

Ongoing prayer is our most basic demonstration of total dependence on God. The ministries and activities of R.E.O. are characterized by a continual dependence on individual and corporate prayer in their planning and execution.

E
03 MOBILIZATION

Every Member Ministry

We believe that lay people can and should be trained to do the works of ministry. We realize the Great Commission is too big for ordained clergy to fulfill all alone. We therefore constantly train, equip and release lay people to become ministers and to minister.

S
04 MULTIPLICATION

Saturation Church Planting

There should be a church within every community so that people do not have to trek or travel far in order to get to a word-based church. We strive to saturate everywhere we are located with vibrant churches and also to motivate and mobilize other ministries to do same.

L
05 INTEGRITY

Loyalty

Loyalty is central to building anything valuable both in corporate and interpersonal relationships. Our work goes on without the threat of splits and divisions.

S
06 CONSECRATION

Need for Sacrifices

Genuine faith has always been expressed through high quality personal sacrifices (Hebrews 11:4). God's work advances only as we lay down our lives for the Lord, His work and His people. In everything we do, we strive to excel through practical faith and personal sacrifices.

H
07 COMMUNITY

Healthy Relationships

Healthy and love-filled relationships among ministry leaders and workers is a key to successful ministry and growing churches (Hebrews 10:24–25). We diligently strive to create harmonious interpersonal relationships devoid of strife and selfishness.

S
08 LEADERSHIP

Servant & Example-Oriented Leadership

Leaders must lead by serving others and consistently set the right examples for followers to follow in all things. Our leaders do not lead their followers from behind.

R
09 PRIORITY

Rural Areas & Small Towns

Small population centers and remote rural areas matter to God just as much as the cities. Because rural areas and small towns really matter to God, we will strive to plant healthy churches where there are none and strengthen existing ones.

P
10 FAITH

Rural Areas Potential

Even the most isolated places can never limit what God can do (Matthew 9:35–36). We will always strive never to think that rural areas should limit what we can believe God for or what He can do.

Q
11 EXCELLENCE

High Quality Ministry Efforts

God deserves the very best that we have to offer. Our Ministry efforts will always demonstrate our belief that rural areas/small towns deserve our best efforts just as larger places do.

Apostolic Oversight & Accountability

OUR LEADERSHIP

REO MINISTRIES is led by a General Assembly that meets from time to time. An executive committee comprising principal officers of the ministry work under the supervision of the General Assembly. A Board of trustees and a Board of Reference act as advisers to the General Assembly and also as arbitrators when the need arises.
